Commissioners quietly moved the Midway Road wideningup to Phase 2 — here's what changes in June.
A 4–1 vote late Wednesday fast-tracks the Port St. Lucie corridor ahead of schedule. Three things shift for drivers, one thing shifts for homeowners on Keen.
The 7.2-mile widening of Midway Road between Selvitz Rd and Glades Cut Off was originally slated to begin in late 2027. At Wednesday's regular meeting, commissioners pulled the project forward on the back of a $18.3M federal infrastructure grant that was finalized earlier this month.
Commissioner Alderman, the sole dissenting vote, raised concerns about the impact on Keen Street residents whose properties abut the corridor. Three parcels will be partially acquired by eminent domain; the county has published the notification letters and appraisal process.
Phase 2 construction starts June 14 with lane shifts between Selvitz and Glades Cut Off. Expect intermittent single-lane closures from 9 PM to 5 AM through August. Full timeline and detour maps are available at slcfl.gov/midway.
